Pub Night Fundraiser
Thanks to everyone who came out and supported our first fundraiser of the year on June 19 at the Rivers Reach Pub. Over $1,800 was raised to purchase new field equipment. A big thank you goes out to local businesses that contributed prizes to the event, such as Overtime Athletics, PrimeTime Sports and VanCity Sports.
Hyacks Grad Nasser Jamal Drafted by Argos
Congratulations to Nasser Jamal who became the first NWSS Grad drafted into the CFL since the football program was resurrected in 2003. Jamal, a 6'6", 290 pound offensive lineman, was selected by the Toronto Argos in the 6th round (40th overall). Jamal is currently playing at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (NCAA Div 1) where he will return for his senior season this fall.
Congratulations Coach Lalji!
Congratulations to our club's president, Farhan Lalji, for being named the 2009 BC Scholastic Coach of the Year at this year's BC Lions Orange Helmet Awards dinner. Coach Lalji is the head coach of the New Westminster Secondary School varsity football team, one of the province's top high school football programs.
